I lived with a family that was wonderful, loving, caring, considerate, and all those other words that come to mind when you think of your own family. I lived with the Pattersons in Flat Rock, Michigan a city situated 30 minutes from down town Detroit.

I took care of 2 boys, and 2 girls...Luke, Reine, Jojo, and Zachary. They are the most intelligent, energetic, willing, and fun loving kids I know. Most of my time was spent playing, learning and exploring with the kids, a very important aspect of being an Au Pair, and going to college where I studied Marketing and Communications. Not forgetting hanging out with new found friends and constantly meeting new ones.

My family is very fond of Northern Michigan, where the State boasts with several different Lakes of which Lake Michigan is the biggest, so our summers were mostly spend there, camping and vacationing. It is so beautiful up there, It looks like something out of a travel magazine. If we did not go up North we would travel the U.S. all the way from the Grand Canyon in Arizona to the lovely hills of West Virginia and then down to the white beaches of Florida, just to name a few.

If it was not traveling with the family it was traveling with my friends. We would organize trips with our councilor and other Au Pairs to different States. On one occasion a group of more then 15 girls traveled to Niagara Falls, Canada. It was such a blast, we kept talking about it for weeks and weeks.

There are so many things to do and experience in the U.S. The opportunities are endless and the possibilities limitless.

If you are looking for something worthwhile to do or experience, which you will talk about for ages to come, I would definitely recommend trying the Au Pair in America program. Not only do you meet a new family which will become a life long family or make friends for life which will become family to you but, you will experience a brand new culture, brighten your horizon, gain knowledge of things you have never known of and find yourself whilst literally being on holiday!
