“Au Pair in America gave me the chance to add amazing memories to my life, which I will tell my own children about one day....maybe while my own Au Pair is taking care of them”
Janine Wolters, Germany
After Your Interview
Your completed application will be sent to the Au Pair in America office who will confirm your acceptance on the program. The US office will immediately start to work on finding you a suitable host family, after which will follow calls from host families with details of their home, children, community, duties and their requirements as well as to find out more about you.

As soon as you have been matched with a suitable family you will be sent a Placement Pack that includes:
  • a written offer of your placement
  • details of your host family
  • an invoice for your program fees
  • visa application forms

Track your Application Online

Once your application is accepted, you can log on to the password protected participant site designed especially for Au Pair in America's Au Pairs.

You can check the status of your application, your placement with your host family and your departure details at any time.

Follow these simple guidelines to help you improve your application and find a great host family!
  • Upload a video – a great way to bring your application to life!  Host families love seeing their potential au pair on film and this will give them some insight into your personality, English abilities and home life.
  • Keep contact info up to date and respond to all emails and phone calls quickly – if a host family gives you a time and date for a phone call, be ready and waiting by your phone!
  • Check emails and voicemails regularly – if you don’t have a voicemail inbox, think about setting one up – it may cost money, but if a family can’t leave a message they may move on, so it’s worth it.
  • Provide a landline number as well as a mobile/cell phone number.
  • Make sure family members are aware that host families might call – if your family members cannot speak English, you should prepare a short script so they can tell American families (in English) when they should call again.
  • Update your application – do you have more childcare experience since you applied?  Do you drive more frequently?  Can you practice your English everyday and take up a new hobby or interest?
  • Be willing to care for children of all ages and for more than one child.
  • Be willing to be placed anywhere in the USA – the right family is more important than the location.
  • Inform us of any changes to availability / holiday dates.
  • Be prepared to speak to an American host family – read “When a Family Calls” and practice your English conversation skills as much as possible.
  • Be friendly, enthusiastic and polite when a host family calls.

Remember to keep Au Pair in America informed about any improvements/changes to your application!
